Bruce Paterson

Bruce Paterson is a life long resident of Union County, living in 8 of the 21 towns in the county before finally becoming a homeowner in Garwood in 1992. He was educated in the Kenilworth and Cranford school districts. He graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelors of Science degree in mechanical engineering. He paid his way through college by working as a milkman, factory worker, flooring contractor and gas station mechanic/ attendant. He was awarded a local scholarship for college. He also has achieved a New Jersey Master Plumbers license.

Bruce has worked in Union County all his life, being employed in an engineering capacity in 2 different engineering and construction firms. He is presently starting a plumbing contracting company, but has put these plans aside for now, since he feels the campaign to help the people of Union County is more important.

Since moving into Garwood, Bruce has taken an active role in the community. Over the years he has been selected to serve on various ad hoc citizens committees set up by the municipal, planning and school districts. He also serves on the mayoral appointed Celebrations Committee as an officer. During Garwood's 100-year Centennial anniversary celebration in 2003, Bruce was prominent in organizing and coordinating events and raising money for the celebration's yearlong activities. He was chairman of the Centennial cookbook committee raising thousands of dollars for the celebration. He also publishes a quarterly 10-page newsletter on the municipal, school and local happenings in Garwood. He believes in open information for the residents and taxpayers.

He goes out of his way to help the seniors and hard working families around the town. Bruce finds normally when he assists someone, they always offer him money in return. Finding the good in this, he would then tell them to donate to whatever local cause is present. The latest cause he is raising donations for is the Garwood VFW roof fund.

Although he likes to keep a low profile, occasionally an issue comes up that he is passionate about and becomes an activist. This is especially true when it comes to major issues that affect the seniors, hard working families, and people who feel they are being taken advantage of by government and are helpless to do something about it. One issue was the Garwood school district plans of construction. His involvement helped save millions of dollars for the taxpayers of Garwood, which is especially helpful in this high tax climate.

Presently, Bruce says that the county level of government has been proven to be out of control, disregards the concerns of the Union County taxpayers, is wasteful and inefficient, and is rife with unethical practices. He is running as a candidate to give the county back to the PEOPLE! He and his other fellow candidates need your help, donations and vote to achieve this.
